IPOH: Possessing aesthetic value and vintage ‘vibes’, Pekan Lama Cafe facing the main road of Jalan Sultan Yusof here is certainly the most ‘chill’ location to relax on the weekend.

So, it is not complete if visitors who come on vacation with their families around the Old Town in this city do not take the opportunity to stop for a while and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while dining.

Apart from having the most unique environment for ‘OOTD’ (Outfit of The Day), this cafe also provides a variety of interesting menus for visitors to enjoy.

Not limited to just one theme, visitors can choose a variety of breakfast concept dishes, Thai food, western food and even laksa.

Among them are Nasi Goreng Pekan Lama, Laksa Sarang Ipoh, Thai Creamy Red Curry, English Breakfast, Scrambled Egg with Toast, Mexican Spicy Creamy and many more.

The owner of the cafe, Mohamad Ikmal Hafiz Ahmad Anuar, said that the cafe, which has only been open for the past six months, not only attracts local visitors, but is also the focus of foreign tourists.

“So far thankfully the response has been encouraging, many tourists come to visit this cafe because it is in a tourist area.

“In addition, the location of this cafe is strategic in the middle of the city and close to the Ipoh Railway Station, so the cafe is the focus of many foreign tourists as well as local visitors.

“We receive most foreign visitors such as from the United States, Europe, France on weekends and on weekdays we also have many local visitors, especially from Kuala Lumpur and Penang,” he said when met by Ipoh Echo and Perak Tastic at the cafe here.

Mohamad Ikmal Hafiz said, they chose to maintain the concept of the old structure of the existing building in accordance with the name of the cafe which was placed as ‘Pekan Lama Cafe’.

“This cafe actually uses the structure of an old building, which still has nostalgic value. We didn’t make many changes because we wanted it to really look like the concept of an old building and from there also came the idea to name the cafe as Pekan Lama Cafe Ipoh,” he said.

According to him, although the cafe has an Old Town concept, the menu provided is not limited to only traditional food.

He said, overall the cafe has about 25 main items and more than 20 types of drinks for customers to enjoy.

“For the ‘signature’ items,  we highlight our iconic dishes Nasi Goreng Pekan Lama and Laksa Sarang.

“However, we still provide a varied menu so that those who come to visit this cafe have many food options,” he said while informing that they receive at least 400 to 500 customers a day.

According to him, in the future, he plans to add more menu items for customers to enjoy.

“We are in the process of upgrading the breakfast menu. Now we have Roti Goyang, English Breakfast, sandwiches, so from time to time we will add more dishes for breakfast.

“Currently the cafe is open from 9 am to 5 pm; in the future we plan to open at night,” he said.

He said that as a promotion, the cafe is offering a coffee ‘upgrade’ to coffee float for free for the first 100 customers. Offer is valid for 1 month. (June 15th to July 15th, 2023)
