IPOH: A police constable was arrested after he was believed to be involved in the attempted rape of a teenage girl in the toilet of a petrol station near Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, here yesterday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the police received a report from a 19-year-old local victim regarding the incident which happened at around 2.30am.
He also said that the investigation found that the suspect is a civil servant, a 23-year-old junior police officer with the rank of constable at the Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“The suspect has already been arrested after the police report was received, the investigation team managed to obtain a remand order against the suspect for five days from today (June 18) to June 22 for further investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 376/511 of the Penal Code (attempted rape),” he told reporters here today
He also emphasized that the police take seriously the integrity and behavior of the members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and will not compromise on any misconduct committed by any of its members.
“The investigation paper on this case is being updated and will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for proposed charges,” he added.
At the same time, Mohd Yusri also advised the public not to make any speculations about the case that would affect the police’s investigation.
