MANJUNG: The Manjung District Police have initiated an investigation into the sudden death of a 15-year-old male student on June 17.
The Chief of Manjung District Police, ACP Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, stated that the Manjung District Police Headquarters received a report regarding the incident yesterday.
“On June 20, at around 4:38 PM, the Manjung District Police Headquarters received a police report regarding the sudden death of a 15-year-old male student who passed away in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the emergency unit at Hospital Seri Manjung.
“Based on the police investigation and information from the school, it was found that on June 16, at around 7:30 AM, the student was in an unwell condition and experienced pain in his leg. He was using a walking stick for assistance while at school.
“The school authorities contacted the student’s parents and informed them about their child’s unwell condition. The parents came to the school and took their child home,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Mohamed Nordin added that the parents subsequently decided to take their child to Hospital Seri Manjung after observing that his condition did not improve.
He stated that the family brought the student to the emergency unit of the hospital for treatment, and he was later transferred to the ICU at 10:10 PM.
“On June 17, at approximately 12:06 AM, Hospital Seri Manjung notified that the student had passed away in the ICU.
“The medical officer at Hospital Seri Manjung confirmed that the cause of death was massive pulmonary embolism (blockage of blood vessels in the lungs),” he added.
In light of this, he mentioned that the Manjung District Police have opened an investigation into the sudden death for further inquiries. At the same time, the public is advised against speculating about the incident.
