KAMUNTING: A factory making rubber gloves here had a leak of nitrogen dioxide in one of the factory’s tanks today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said that the Kamunting Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received a call to inform about the incident at 10.30am before members rushed to the scene.

“When the BBP arrived at the scene of the incident, it was found that there was a leak of the chemical Nitrogen Dioxide.

“However, the ‘scrubber’ (one of the primary devices that control gaseous emissions, especially acid gasses) was working and absorbing that chemical,” he said in a statement here today.

Sabarodzi said the incident did not involve any injuries or loss of life.

He said, the operations commander ordered the personnel to do ‘cooling’ on the tank.

“Then a team member diluted the tank chemical by adding water to lower the temperature,” he said.

He said, the entire operation ended at 2.36 pm.
