The Perak community is invited to a transformative Public Forum, “Empowering Parents of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),” aimed at providing valuable insights, support, and resources for families and individuals living with ASD. This free event, taking place on July 8th, is set to be an enlightening experience for attendees, offering guidance and building a strong support network.
The Public Forum will feature a panel of experts, including Ms. Mohanita Azlina, a dedicated parent; Dr. Mazidah Said, a parent and Board Member of the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM); Ms. Nisha Naomi, a Special Needs Consultant and Principal of 3PKI; and Ms. Noryantimarlina, an experienced Speech Therapist. These professionals will provide valuable insights, share personal experiences, and offer strategies to empower parents, caregivers, educators, and community members.
Attendees will have the opportunity to actively participate in the dialogue sessions, where they can ask questions and engage in discussions about independence, effective communication strategies, coping with stress, and embracing the journey of raising a child with ASD. The panellists’ expertise and collective wisdom will provide practical guidance and a deeper understanding of ASD.
One of the highlights of the event will be the mini book launch of “Why Me”? A Parent’s Journey with a preschool child with ASD” written by Dr. Shan Narayanan. Dr. Shan, a renowned Consultant Paediatrician at Hospital Fatimah in Ipoh, has dedicated his career to improving the lives of children with ASD. His book chronicles the personal journey of a parent and offers guidance, practical advice, and inspiration to other parents facing similar paths.
In addition to the enlightening dialogue sessions, the Forum will also feature a High Tea & Networking Session. This segment will allow attendees to connect with professionals, support groups, and rehabilitation/special education centres. It will create a collaborative environment, enabling participants to share experiences, resources, and build a strong support network within the community.
Furthermore, an exhibition will take place during the event, showcasing the work of various support groups and rehabilitation/special education centres. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and learn more about the services and programs available for individuals with ASD.
Whether you are a parent, educator, healthcare professional, or a concerned community member, this Forum offers valuable insights and practical strategies to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with ASD and their families.
Together, let us work towards building a community that celebrates differences and provides the necessary support for individuals with ASD to thrive.
