AYER TAWAR: Two Indonesian women died after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were riding in crashed into a ditch at KM 9 Jalan Kampung Koh-Ayer Tawar, yesterday afternoon.
Manjung District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said, the police received information about a fatal accident at the location at 7pm.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident happened in the Pekan Gurney area involving a Toyota Harrier SUV type moving from the direction of Simpang 3 towards Simpang 5.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the tires of the SUV suddenly burst, causing the vehicle to lose control, hit a rock and overturn into a ditch,” he said in a statement today.
Mohamed Nordin said that the driver of the SUV, an Indonesian male estimated to be 30 years old and three female passengers estimated to be 20 years old and three child passengers, who were two males and one female, estimated to be 1 to 3 years old, were seriously injured and taken to Seri Manjung Hospital for further treatment.
“While a 28-year-old front passenger woman died at the scene and a 26-year-old woman died in the emergency ward of Seri Manjung Hospital.
“All the victims are Indonesian citizens and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
