Woman burned to death after altercation over drugs

MANJUNG: A 28 year old man became angry after being accused of taking drugs by his wife and family.

A victim of burns at a house near Kampung Bharu was found subsequently.

Manjung District Police Chief, ACP Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said, his party received a call regarding the incident from the suspect’s sister at about 6.42pm, last Monday.

“The result of the investigation found that the cause of the incident was because the suspect was not satisfied with the 33-year-old victim and his family for accusing him of taking drugs.

“The victim, who is also the suspect’s wife, received treatment at Seri Manjung Hospital and was confirmed dead on July 12 (today) by medical officers at approximately 12.20pm.

“An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death,” he said in a statement today.

According to Mohamed Nordin, the police arrested the suspect yesterday around 11pm at a restaurant in Lumut along with drugs.

He said the suspect was then brought to the Seri Manjung Magistrate’s Court today for an application for remand for seven days until July 18 for further investigation.

“Cases are classified according to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and if convicted must be sentenced to death,” he said.
