Silver Hobbycon 2023 on the Horizon
By KT Leong
Silver Hobbycon will soon be upon us. The massive event will be held at Kompleks Belia Dan Sukan Ipoh on July 22 and 23, running from 7 am to 7 pm for both days.
Following last weekend’s Leypark event and previous hobby events that have been held in Ipoh on an almost monthly basis, it seems that Ipoh is becoming a hub for the pop hobby community. With Hot Wheels racers, model kit builders, gaming enthusiasts, toy collectors and even cosplayers having plenty of opportunities to scratch their hobby itch in Ipoh itself, the days of having to travel all the way to Kuala Lumpur or even Singapore for events, could potentially be a thing of the past. Which would certainly be a welcome relief on the wallets of all these hobbyists!
Silver Hobbycon won’t be just one of the biggest hobby events in Perak though. Sure, it will feature 60 vendors, Hot Wheels Drag Racing, Remote Control (RC) demonstrations, visits from notable cosplayers Afiq, Prince September, Ikhwan and Ashmiko94, Gunpla, Diecast Custom competitions, comics, a comics workshop with Jiro and more.
But it will also be part of the Perak Youth and Sports Department (Jabatan Belia dan Sukan Negeri Perak)’s National Youth Day (Hari Belia Negara) for Perak.
So it will also feature a slew of other events and activities, such as E-Sports Challenge, a Motor Showcase with exhibitions of custom and classic motorcycles, Harley Davidsons and even drag race cars.
There will be an active lifestyle segment featuring futsal, creative arts segment with a cooking competition, a Skills for Youth exhibition with courses for both men and women and finally, there will be plenty of food and drinks for sale.
And this is all just scratching the surface on what promises to be one of the biggest hobby events of the year, in a year that’s already been very good for the Ipoh hobby scene.
