IPOH: Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO), Premier Polytechnic today witnessed the signing of cooperation with 18 industries from the manufacturing, business and service sectors as well as the government.
This collaboration covers aspects of providing a place for students’ industrial training and industrial connections for lecturers; sharing industry expertise as visiting lecturers, equipment donations and research grants.
Director of PUO, Dr Shamsuri Abdullah said, strategic collaboration with industry partners is seen as an important contributor to the effectiveness and progress of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
“Industry is the main engine driving the country’s economic development.
“The Industry Advisory Committee is the best collaboration platform for PUO and industry to share their experiences and expertise for the purpose of improving the teaching and learning system in producing quality graduates who meet the needs of industry and national employment.
“The importance of the strategic collaboration relationship between industry partners and PUO has succeeded in improving the quality of TVET Education, driving Malaysia to become a developed country by the coming year,” he said during his speech at the Media Appreciation Ceremony, Presentation Certificate Appointment of the Industry Advisory Committee and Signing of the Strategic Collaboration Certificate at the Jubilee Hall, PUO here today.
Today’s ceremony also appreciates the contribution of media practitioners who actively promote PUO, in accordance with PUO’s status as a prestigious TVET Higher Education Institution.0
A total of at least 25 media practitioners from 21 state and national media agencies including Ipoh Echo and Perak Tastic attended the media appreciation ceremony.
“Cooperation among media partners has made PUO a reality in disseminating information as an Institution of Higher Education that is responsive and proactive to the needs of the people, in line with the Malaysia Madani concept.
“An appreciation and thanks to the media practitioners, who always work hard to ensure that information is presented accurately and authentically.
“The support of media partners in helping PUO realize its wish as the ‘Home of TVET Champions’ puts PUO as one of the TVET institutions that are the primary choice of youth to further their studies and improve their skills,” said Shamsuri.
Today’s ceremony was also attended by nine members of the PUO Industry Advisory Committee chaired by Tan Sri Dato’ Sufri Mohd Zin.
PUO is optimistic that this program is a proactive step to bridge the active relationship between media practitioners and PUO as well as realizing the government’s desire to promote TVET as the main choice in the higher education sector in Malaysia.
To date, a total of more than 87,000 graduates in the fields of engineering, technology and business have been successfully produced by PUO since its establishment.
