IPOH: A proposal for the construction of an international airport in Perak is being planned when an area in Felcra Nasaruddin in Bota, Seri Iskandar is identified.
Further studies regarding the proposal will be carried out including assessing the suitability of the 1618.74 hectare area to be developed.
The Perak state government since 2017, has planned to build a new international standard airport in Seri Iskandar.
This follows that Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh has constraints to development due to its location and surrounding development.
However, the matter is subject to the results of the study of the National Airport Strategic Plan (NASP) of the Ministry of Transport which is currently being carried out on all 42 existing airports across the country.
Chairman of the Perak state Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee, Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin said a survey of the area had been held.
According to him, the state and federal governments have agreed in principle on the proposed international airport construction project.
“The initial study of this project will be carried out by an international infrastructure engineering company from the United Kingdom, Colebrand International Limited.
“It is to see the suitability of the site before submitting the results of the study to the state government,” he said.
Previously, Mohamad Nizar had visited the airport site in Seri Iskandar together with the agencies involved.
Among them the State Economic Planning Unit, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak, Perak Invest, Perak Tengah Land Office, Perak Tengah District Council, The Perak Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Public Work Department.
