TAIPING: Police have arrested a woman and her male companion to assist in the investigation following the death of a 9-year-old boy yesterday.
Taiping District Police Chief, ACP Razlam Ab Hamid, stated that the 36-year-old woman is the mother of the victim, and preliminary investigations have revealed signs of abuse on the child.
He further explained that the deceased was the second of five siblings, and the mother was living together with her male companion in the same house.
“The Perak State Forensic Division D10 of the Royal Malaysia Police investigated the scene and preliminary findings indicated signs of abuse on the deceased.
“The mother and her husband were experiencing marital problems and were in the process of divorce. The abuse is believed to have been occurring since last March.
“The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Department of Taiping Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death,” he told reporters on Monday.
He also mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
As such, he urged anyone with information related to the crime to come forward and assist the police in combating such criminal incidents.
Earlier, media reported that a 9-year-old boy was found dead in his home in Asam Kumbang, here, yesterday morning.
According to Razlam, the police received information through MERS 999 at 11 am regarding the child’s death.
