IPOH- The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin announced the rebranding of Ipoh Car Free Day to Ipoh Low Carbon Day, effective July 2023.
According to him, the rebranding is an initiative to reduce the intensity of carbon emissions and support the country’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.
“Ipoh Car Free Day was started on 18 October 2015. Its first location was at Jalan Raja Dihilir and moved to Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil (Dataran Bandaraya) on 22 December 2019.
“This program won the Platinum Award, Placemaking Award by the Malaysian Institute of Planners under the Street (Utilisation During Events) category when it was organized at Jalan Raja DiHilir.
“This program provides benefits to all communities in addition to carrying out various activities to meet the challenges towards achieving the Sustainability Aspiration of a Clean Zero Carbon City 2050.
“It also aims to make Ipoh a Green, Smart, Liveable, Resilient and Sustainable City by 2030,” he said.
