Police on the Hunt for Foreign Barber Suspected of Committing Sexual Harassment

IPOH: Police are hunting for a foreign barber who is believed to have sexually harassed a woman at a barber shop in Manjoi on Tuesday.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said, the police detected a viral issue on Facebook social media regarding a case of sexual harassment in Manjoi which was shared by the owner of a Facebook account named ‘siti hajar ghazali’.

According to him, his side also confirmed receiving a police report from a 37-year-old woman at the Jelapang Police Station yesterday.

“The victim claimed that she was sexually harassed by the suspect, a man suspected to be a foreigner, who worked at a barber shop in Manjoi while her son was getting his hair cut by the suspect at about 1.25pm ​​yesterday.

This case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said, therefore, the police were searching for the suspect, who is a foreign Indian man who was believed to have fled after the incident.

He added, members of the public who have any information about the suspect can come forward to assist the police investigation by contacting Senior Investigating Officer D11 IPD Ipoh, ASP Yap Siew Cheng at 012-9093362.
