GERIK – The Federal Government has approved an additional allocation of RM30 million for the upgrading of the East-West Highway (Federal Route FT04) that connects Gerik to Jeli.
Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, made this announcement during the launch of the MYJALAN KKR Campaign at the Public Jetty, Pulau Banding.
He mentioned that other financial requests will be considered in the second MADANI Budget in October.
“Even though there are many requests for these roads, I will review them in the second MADANI Budget in October.
“Today, I can approve an additional RM30 million to repair the road,” he stated during his speech at the event,” he said.
During the same event, he also announced a goodwill payment of RM1,000 to 87 former construction workers of the East-West Highway as a token of appreciation for their dedicated service.
Earlier, the Perak Chief Minister, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, in his address, requested additional funding for several Federal roads that require improvement.
Among them are RM40 million for the East-West Highway, RM35 million for the Kuala Kangsar to Gerik and Pengkalan Hulu road, RM19 million for the Simpang Pulai to Blue Valley route, and RM12 million for the Tapah – Cameron Highland road.
