PARIT BUNTAR: Police arrested four local men who are believed to be active in a drug trafficking syndicate around Perak with an estimated value of RM 440,550, on Thursday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, all the suspects were arrested in a raid on a car, in Jalan Ban, Tanjung Piandang, here around 10am yesterday.
He said, the raid carried out by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Kerian District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested four men aged 19 to 41 years.
“As a result of the inspection carried out in the vehicle, the police have found and seized a quantity of drugs believed to be cannabis, estimated to weigh 5,461.75 grams worth RM17,050.
“Following the arrest, on the same day at around 3.30pm, a raid was also carried out in the area of Jalan Ban, and found a zipped backpack on the side of the road.
“In it is believed to be WY pill type drug estimated to weigh 6,416.02 grams and methamphetamine type drug estimated to weigh 2,084.75 grams worth RM 423,500.
“The total value of the seized drugs is estimated to be RM440,550,” he told reporters today.
Meanwhile, he said, the urine screening conducted found all the suspects positive for THC and methamphetamine.
He explained that the results of the review also found that all the suspects had a record of criminal and drug convictions.
“Based on the investigation, it is believed that these people have been active in drug trafficking activities since before June until now.
“The seized drugs are suspected to be distributed in the local market in the state of Perak and it is estimated that the amount of seized drugs can be used for 47,000 drug addicts,” he said.
Accordingly, he said, the case was investigated in accordance with Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In addition, all the suspects were remanded for seven days from Friday to September 7 to assist the investigation.
