LUMUT: A teenage boy who had been missing since yesterday while bathing in the sea at Teluk Senangin Beach here, was found dead floating this afternoon by the rescue team.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said Muhammad Fahmi Hafizi Mohd Fadzli, 19, was found at 5.30pm within 50 meters of the suspected victim’s earlier location.

He said the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) had dived at the location of the drowning victim.

“The fire boat was used at the location of the drowned victim by making several rounds in an effort to raise the victim.

“The victim surfaced 10 meters from the location of the PPDA dive and was found at 5.30 pm within 50 meters of the location where the victim is suspected to have fallen.

“The victim was found floating and dead,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Previously the media reported that the victim was said to have been pulled by the waves while bathing in the sea together with six of his cousins.

In addition, the search and rescue (SAR) operation of the victim also faced challenges following the large waves and continuous rain at the location of the incident today.

Sabarodzi said the search operation was divided into several sectors covering up to 7.4 kilometers (km).

He also said that the operation involved the JBPM, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Perak Maritime, the Malaysian Civil Defense Force and civilians, namely fishermen.
