PANGKOR: A man who was reported to have drowned while swimming at Pasir Bogak Beach here yesterday was discovered to be trying to save his friend from drowning.
ACP Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, the District Police Chief of Manjung, stated that the initial police investigation revealed that the 20-year-old victim was attempting to rescue his friend from drowning while they were swimming at the same beach.
However, the situation took a different turn when the victim himself began to drown, while his friend managed to save himself.
“At 3:04 PM on Saturday, the Operations Room at the Manjung District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a phone call from a member of the public reporting that a man had gone missing and drowned at Pasir Bogak Beach.

“At 3:45 PM, the victim was found drowned and was confirmed dead by the Medical Officer of the Pulau Pangkor Health Clinic,” he said in a statement on Sunday,” he said.
He mentioned that the victim’s body was sent to Manjung Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The investigation found no signs of foul play in the incident. The case is classified as an accidental death.
In light of this, he advised the general public, especially those visiting recreational areas, particularly beaches, to ensure their safety and that of their family members while at such locations. Additionally, wearing life jackets is recommended to prevent unwanted incidents.
