HUTAN MELINTANG: Two siblings died after the motorcycle they were riding collided with an opposite car at kilometer 45, Jalan Hutan Melintang-Bagan Datuk, this morning.
The 15-year-old male motorcycle rider and the 13-year-old female passenger passed away at the scene.
Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri, the District Police Chief of Hilir Perak, said that both victims were on their way to school at the time of the incident.
“At 7 a.m. on Thursday, a fatal accident involving two vehicles occurred, a Modenas Kriss motorcycle and a Perodua Viva car.
“The accident resulted in the deaths of two school students, who were also siblings, at the scene due to severe injuries.
“Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman who was driving the Perodua Viva sustained minor injuries,” he said in a statement here today.
Ahmad Adnan stated that the initial investigation at the scene found that the motorcycle rider was heading from Bagan Datuk towards Hutan Melintang.
Meanwhile, he said, the car driver was traveling from Hutan Melintang to Bagan Datuk.
“Upon reaching the scene, it is suspected that the victim’s motorcycle crossed into the opposing lane and collided head-on with the car in the opposite lane.
“The investigation into the road accident is being conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Hilir Perak under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“The police have also taken a statement from the woman driving the Perodua Viva,” he said.
In the meantime, he said, the investigation is still ongoing to determine the actual cause of the accident.
He added that eyewitnesses or those with dashboard camera (dashcam) or closed-circuit camera recordings can contact the case investigator, Insp. Muhammad Hanif Ghazali, at 013-8211978 or 05-612 2222 to assist in the investigation.
