IPOH – The Ipoh Music Symposium 2023 (IMS2023) Concert successfully rekindled the music of the 1975-1985 pop era that once coloured the entertainment industry of this nation.
The performances by local artists from that era, such as Francissca Peter, Atai, Headwind, Alleycats, and Blues Gang, undeniably stirred the nostalgia of the attending audience.
The appearances of all these groups and solo artists managed to soothe the longing of Muhamad Azizul Rahim, 43, among the thousands of spectators present at the concert.
“I was genuinely excited to witness the guest artist performances, especially the Alleycats with their lead singer, Dato’ David Arumugam.
“It cannot be denied that the appearance of the legendary entertainer who sang ‘Sampaikan Salam Cinta Ku’ brought back the nostalgia for the audience who grew up with his songs.
“IMS2023 successfully revived the glory of popular Malaysian music from the 1970s to the 1980s, which was rich with various music genres (pop, disco, rock). This also included the emergence of artists from diverse ethnic backgrounds,” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic after the concert that lasted for more than two hours at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC) last night.
Also present was DYAM Raja Dihilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain.
IMS2023 is the fifth annual event in the series, held from October 6 to 8, organized by PORT (People Of Remarkable Talents), a cultural agency funded by the Perak state government (since 2011).
Various free events were held, including the main symposium, music workshops, a pop-up exhibition, music book discussions, and the main concert.
Before this, the official opening and IMS2023 Program Concert Evenings were graced by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, on October 7, 2023, at Hotel Travelodge Ipoh:
The public still has the opportunity to view the Pop Music Exhibition of Malaysia 1975-1985, which is ongoing until October 12, 2023, at Dewan Kampar 2, Hotel Travelodge from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
