Cawan Mu Restaurant in De Garden Triumphs in Cleanest Restaurant and Cafe Competition
IPOH: Cawan Mu Restaurant in De Garden, Ipoh, secured the top spot out of 10 licensed food establishments that participated in this year’s Cleanest Restaurant and Cafe Competition.
The program, organized by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), aims to elevate the standards of cleanliness, safety, and cheerfulness in restaurants throughout the city.
The Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, announced that Cawan Mu Restaurant in De Garden, Ipoh, took home a cash prize of RM1,500 along with a certificate of appreciation.
The second place was awarded to Dragon Seafood Restaurant Sdn Bhd, Falim, which received a cash prize of RM1,000 and a certificate of appreciation.
Meanwhile, the third place went to Wing’s Delight Sdn Bhd in Greentown, which received a cash prize of RM750 and a certificate of appreciation.
Rumaizi stated that seven other establishments were also presented with consolation prizes of RM250 in cash and certificates of appreciation.
“The Environmental Health Department of MBI has intensified monitoring activities to ensure the cleanliness of food premises, including the personal hygiene of food handlers, food preparation areas, and restroom facilities.
“The goal is to achieve the ‘BMW’ standards, which stand for ‘Bersih’ (Clean), ‘Menawan’ (Attractive), and ‘Wangi’ (Fragrant), to meet the requirements of tourists, ensuring a clean and safe environment,” he said.
As of last September, out of the 1,072 restaurants, cafes, and dining establishments assessed this year, a total of 359 received Grade A assessment certificates.
He made these remarks after officiating the Cleanest Restaurant and Cafe Awards Presentation program and the presentation of Grade A Certificates in conjunction with World Environmental Health Day.
He added that through this program, MBI aims to promote the cleanest restaurant and cafe premises while setting a benchmark for others. It is hoped that this initiative will encourage the participation of other Grade A food establishments in the MBI area to join the competition in the upcoming editions.
