M&M Charity Dinner 2023
by KT Leong
Mutts and Mittens (M&M) held a charity dinner last night at Super HLT Restaurant. It was a packed event that saw the attendance of scores of VIPs such as YB Jenny Choy, who presented a mock cheque worth RM10,000 to M&M President, Chong Choon Kit as well as Datin Janet Yeoh, who belted a song to a delighted audience. Hundreds of donors were present at the dinner, normal people with a love of animals, came in support of the cause of finding homes for stray animals.

The event was additionally enlivened by a performance by the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra (KVWO), who will be holding a concert at the end of the month as previously reported by Ipoh Echo.
The reason for the charity dinner comes from the loss of M&M’s previous location for fostering strays. They previously had a 2 hectare location in Menglembu, but according to them the landlord wants to take back the land for development purposes.
So they have been forced to move to a temporary nearby location, that’s less than a single hectare. However, this temporary location is not suitable as besides being very limited in space, it is prone to flooding, especially with the recent climate. So the area is not very safe to stay.
A donor plans to rent M&M a piece of land that’s more suitable, but they lack the funds to build. M&M are targeting RM500K.
They currently have around 300 dogs. They also have about 90, which are housed at their Pet Cafe, 30 Nights of Strays Cafe and in the houses of volunteers.
M&M will also be at the upcoming Petz-A-Mania: Pawstival at Stadium Indera Mulia, Ipoh, Perak on October 28 and 29. Stay tuned with Ipoh Echo for more info on that. Feel free to meet them and perhaps bring home a new family member.
