IPOH: More than 2,000 students and staff of Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) participated in the ‘Himpunan Solidariti Politeknik Ungku Omar Bersama Palestin’ at Dewan Jubli Perak, PUO today.
The Director of PUO, Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, stated that the gathering was a manifestation of solidarity support for Palestine, which is currently facing difficulties due to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
“The gathering represents the concern of PUO’s community in producing holistic TVET students in various aspects of life, including knowledge, technical skills, and global awareness,” he said in a statement today.
Shamsuri mentioned that the gathering’s participants, organized by the PUO Student Representative Council (MPP) in collaboration with MyCARE (Humanitarian Care Malaysia Berhad), also heard a speech by MyCARE activist, Ir. Haji Megat Shariffudin Ibrahim, regarding the current situation in Palestine.
MyCARE is a non-governmental organization that provides humanitarian aid, including disaster relief, temporary shelter, house reconstruction, food packages, education, and actively engages in relief activities for the Palestinian people.
During the same event, Shamsuri launched the PUO Palestine Fund to collect contributions from PUO’s community before transferring the total collection to the Special Aid Fund for Palestine coordinated by the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK).
