IPOH: The road accident that resulted in three men being injured on Bercham Road here last night was caused by the driver of a Proton Perdana losing control and colliding with a garbage truck.
The Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan, stated that the investigation revealed the three victims are related, with the 20-year-old driver carrying two passengers who are his younger siblings and a cousin, each aged 16.
“Approximately 8:28 pm on Monday, the Ipoh District Police received information from the public regarding a road accident involving two vehicles on Bercham Road.
“Initial investigations at the scene revealed that the accident involved a Proton Perdana car and a garbage truck.
“The Proton Perdana car, coming from the Tanjung Rambutan direction while passing through a winding part of the road, lost control and collided with a garbage truck coming from the opposite direction,” he said in a statement here today.
As a result of the collision, the car got trapped under the garbage truck and caught fire.
“The car driver, a 20-year-old man, along with two male passengers who are his younger brother and cousin, aged 16 each, died at the scene.
“Meanwhile, the garbage truck driver and four other occupants escaped injuries,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He also mentioned that the families of all the victims have been identified, and the autopsy process will be conducted today.
In addition, the police urge witnesses who observed the incident to contact the Chief of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, at the Ipoh Police Headquarters, DSP Koo Boon Kuat, at 016-4173222 to assist in the investigation.
He also advised the public to stay informed, be cautious, and aware of road conditions, especially during adverse weather, to reduce the risk of road accidents.
