Ipoh: The public is advised to cease the usage and purchase of four cosmetic products found to contain scheduled poisons, specifically mercury.
Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr. Mohd Radzi Abu Hassan, stated in a release that notifications for these products have been revoked, and they are no longer allowed for sale in the country.
The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) of the Ministry of Health urges the public to refrain from buying and using these cosmetic products.
“Sellers and distributors of cosmetic products need to cease the sale and distribution of these products immediately.
“The sale and distribution of these cosmetic products violate the Drug and Cosmetic Control Regulations 1984,” he said in a statement in Putrajaya today.
Dr Mohd Radzi stated that individuals who violate these regulations could face a fine not exceeding RM25,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both, for a first offence.
The public still using these cosmetic products is advised to immediately discontinue their use and seek advice from healthcare professionals if experiencing any discomfort.
Mercury is prohibited in cosmetic products as it can be harmful to health. It can be absorbed into the body and may cause damage to the kidneys and the nervous system.
The 4 confirmed toxic products are:
- Bestie Moisturizer Cream
- Abyra Seaweed Skin Care – Seaweed Cell Renewal Night Cream
- Gerbera Beauty – Treatment and Repairing Night Cream
- Gerbera Beauty – Whitening Night Cream
