IPOH – Perak Tourism Exco, YB Loh Sze Yee, has urged the Federal Government to reconsider and expedite the application for the introduction of new flight routes to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) and the upgrading works.
He stated that the State Government is working diligently to transform LTSAS into a regional aviation hub as part of the new transportation system in the state.
“Meetings with industry players, including those from Thailand, have been conducted to plan the addition and establishment of new flight routes at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS). Additionally, discussions with the Ministry of Transport and Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) were also held by the State Government.
“However, this initiative is still in the study phase as LTSAS is under the management of the private sector,” he said in his closing speech at the Perak State Legislative Assembly today.
Earlier, he demonstrated the State Government’s commitment to realising the Visit Perak Year 2024 (TMP2024) agenda through the presentation of the Perak Budget 2024 by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad recently.
“In the previous budget presentation, a total of RM10 million was allocated to Tourism Perak, an increase of RM3 million compared to 2023. An additional RM7 million was also allocated to implement infrastructure projects in conjunction with TMP2024,” he said.
Loh added that the commitment of the State Assemblyman for Belanja, YB Khairudin Abu Hanipah, to secure more funding from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) for adventure sports activities such as ADV, Rimba Raid, and international cycling events.
“Through sports tourism, besides generating income, it also promotes TMP2024 and simultaneously helps strengthen cross-portfolio and inter-portfolio cooperation.
“This effort demonstrates the potential economic growth of the state through collaboration with the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat (STeP) to promote the halal industry in Perak, including the Halal Expo, while encouraging Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” he added.
