Datuk Bandar Ipoh has been selected as one of the panel members for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).

The appointment was made during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the Malaysia Pavilion, Expo City, Dubai, held from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

Simultaneously, Norliza Hashim, the CEO of Urbanice Malaysia, served as the Moderator, and was actively involved in the forum titled ‘Inclusive Climate Action: Cities Race to Zero; (Net Zero Commitments).

The forum was attended by three panelists, including Celeste Connors, Co-Lead of the Local2030 Islands Network; Datuk Bandar Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu, and Datuk Bandar New York, Erik L. Addams.

This convention captured the attention of world leaders from various sectors, including Malaysia, to address the future and sustainability of the Earth, particularly global climate issues.

COP28 emphasizes four main focuses in comprehensively addressing the challenges of climate change: intensifying efforts in the energy transition to reduce carbon emissions before 2030; prioritizing the transformation of climate finance with commitments to fulfil old promises and establishing a framework for new agreements.

Climate action places nature, humanity, and livelihoods, at its core, emphasizing the shared importance of all these elements. COP28 also strives to mobilize the most inclusive conference, ensuring the holistic involvement of all stakeholders in addressing global climate challenges.
