IPOH: Applying the cafe concept within the library is one of the objectives of Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) here to create a more comfortable learning space for students.
According to PUO Director, Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, the cafe named Kafe Dellamar was established through a smart partnership by PUO alumni, Izwan Helmi Mohd Mokhtar, and Koperasi PUO Ipoh Berhad.
The location of the cafe is specifically in the Tan Sri Othman Merican Library at the polytechnic.
“PUO has taken steps to promote entrepreneurial activities among its alumni with the opening of Kafe Dellamar.
“The selection of the library as the cafe’s location aligns with the relaxed cafe concept, making the library a more conducive learning space and providing comfort to students.
“At the same time, catering to the preferences of today’s youth, the PUO Entrepreneurship Center also offers collaboration and assistance in terms of facility provision, advisory services, and networking,” he said.
He stated this to reporters after completing the opening ceremony of the cafe here on Monday.
Furthermore, the owner of Dellamar is currently undergoing training and monitoring by the French Council of Malaysia for a year to obtain a license as a franchisor.
Expanding on the matter, he said the original idea for establishing the cafe emerged when a group of Semester 4 students, led by Izwan Helmi represented PUO in the 2021 French Student Program organized by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the French Association of Malaysia.
He explained that they successfully secured third place in the program.
“The Dellamar Brownies & Coffee brand was first introduced through this competition, leading to the establishment of Kafe Dellamar.
“Kafe Dellamar commenced operations at the Tan Sri Othman Merican Library, PUO, on November 28th,” he said.
Additionally, during the same event, the Coffee Table Book PUO: TVET@PUO Malakar Malaysia Madani, documenting PUO’s aspirations towards becoming an APEX Polytechnic, was also launched.
Kafe Dellamar is one of the new products of PUO entrepreneurs that has been successfully realized and marks the beginning of progressive development for young TVET entrepreneurs to remain relevant, competent, and competitive.
