Charity “Plogathon” at Polo Ground
By KT Leong
The Girls’ Brigade Malaysia – 2nd Ipoh Company, which is a youth non-profit organisation (NGO) and the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association (DEBRA) Malaysia, which is an NGO for those suffering from “Butterfly Skin”, are hosting a charity “plogathon” fundraiser aimed to raise awareness on the plight of those with Butterfly Skin.
Butterfly Skin, or Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), is a hereditary disease which causes those with the condition to have extremely fragile skin that blisters and tears from friction or trauma.
Meanwhile, a plogathon for those who may be wondering, is a combination of two words: jogging and the Swedish phrase “plocka upp”, which means pick up. So in addition to jogging, participants will pick up any litter they come across along the way.
In addition to raising funds and awareness, the event also hopes to contribute to a cleaner and healthier Ipoh whilst encouraging youth and families to be active outdoors.
This event welcomes all people of all ages and fitness levels to participate in promoting activity outdoors, environmental care, and raising funds for programmes supporting youth and families impacted by the rare skin disorder EB.
