Special Committee to coordinate stray animal issues

IPOH: A Special Committee will be established to address the issue of roaming animals in the state.

Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee (Exco) in Perak,Sandrea Ng Shy Ching stated that a meeting was recently held with 15 Local Authorities (PBT) regarding this issue.

She stated that the meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Industry Committee, Datuk Zolkafly Harun, the Perak State Veterinary Services Department and the Local Government Division.

“The purpose of this meeting is to coordinate their respective areas of authority to effectively address the issue of roaming animals.

“The Perak State Government is aware that stray livestock and abandoned dogs often pose safety and community well-being concerns,” she said in a statement on her Facebook page here recently.

Sandrea added that discussions also focused on strengthening the Animal Welfare Act 2015 to ensure that livestock farmers and pet owners take full responsibility.

“A good start in the new year, hoping all parties continue to cooperate and remain committed to resolving this issue,” she said.
