TAIPING: The education sector needs to be involved in raising awareness among the public in developing historical heritage, in addition to the tourism sector.
This is because the development of historical heritage should encourage research, conservation, and the enhancement of heritage as it is part of the country’s identity.
Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, stated that this step can also shape a society that appreciates and respects various cultural layers.
“Educational efforts on history and culture should be conveyed through various mediums to touch the hearts and minds of every individual.
Awareness of history among the community is essential to ensure that this heritage is not just a tourist attraction but a source of pride and wealth for every citizen,” he said.
He said this during his speech at the launch of the 150th Anniversary Celebration of Taiping Town at Taiping Heritage Square.
Saarani further stated that effective measures should be taken to ensure that historical heritage is accessible and enjoyed by all segments of society.
“In this way, we can ensure that historical heritage is not only seen as a form of nostalgia but as a starting point for the growth and development of a knowledgeable and progressive society,” he added.
The theme “Sustainability of Heritage Facing Urbanization” was chosen for the 150th anniversary celebration of Taiping Town, reflecting the need to preserve natural beauty and heritage.
