IPOH: The police successfully dismantled illegal activities involving three premises in the Jelapang and Bercham areas for Bitcoin mining activities.

This was the  result from an operation conducted last Thursday and Friday.

Perak Chief of Police, Datuk Sri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, stated that the syndicate targeted shop buildings and private homes, modifying the wiring systems of these premises.

He said the joint operation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) found that the involved syndicate had illicitly tapped into the electrical supply to the buildings used for Bitcoin mining.

“This caused TNB to incur an estimated loss of RM45,294.28.

“In the raid conducted at these premises, a total of 137 Bitcoin mining machines, valued at RM68,500, were successfully seized.

“The investigation also found that this syndicate was able to profit up to RM164,400 per month,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 37(1) of the Electric Supply Act 1990 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, the penalty may include a fine not exceeding RM100,000, imprisonment, or both.
