IPOH: An elderly woman, believed to be mentally unstable, has been collecting rubbish and dumping it at an abandoned house at No 63, Persiaran Cempaka Sari 22, Taman Cempaka.
The impact of this behaviour that has been going on since last year, has resulted in the house being filled with garbage, resulting in a foul odour and exposing vermin to the nearby local residents.
According to one resident, the issue has been raised with the Ipoh City Council (MBI), but only notices were issued, and no cleaning action was taken.
“The rubbish is collected by an elderly woman who is mentally unstable. She often collects rubbish from neighbouring houses and dumps and piles it up there.
“There are many plastic food wrappers, polystyrene boxes, and plastic drink containers in the uninhabited house. It’s understood that the house’s gate is unlocked,” he said.
“This issue has caused distress to the residents around the house as there is a lot of garbage that can attract pests and pose a dengue threat. According to one resident, there are drink containers filled with water.
“We don’t know the motive behind her collecting rubbish, but she never sells it,” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
He further emphasized that as a result of this problem, many rats roam around the house in question and neighbouring houses are not spared.
“Residents appeal to the MBI to take action by entering the house’s gate and cleaning up all the garbage.
“We sincerely hope that this issue can be resolved promptly, ensuring the comfort and safety of the residents,” he added.
