PANGKOR: A portion of the 50 government-allocated water tanks in Perak have begun to be distributed to chalet, resort, and hotel operators who are affected by water supply issues.
The remainder is expected to be received by this Monday as a short-term measure to address water supply disruptions.
The distribution of these water tanks was witnessed by Pangkor State Assemblywoman, Norhaslinda Zakaria, during her inspection of the affected areas with water supply.
She visited locations from Teluk Nipah to Teluk Dalam and met with resort and hotel operators to assess the current situation.
“I express my gratitude for the concern shown by the Chief Minister of Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, for this contribution.
“To streamline the actions of the Perak Water Board (LAP) in addressing this issue, I request LAP to provide a schedule for the delivery of water tanker supplies.
“LAP is also urged to issue notices earlier if water disruptions occur due to repair works.
“During my inspection, I received complaints that water did not reach hotels and resorts in Teluk Dalam,” she said.
Due to this water crisis, most resorts, hotels, and chalets in Pangkor are not accepting room reservations. Some have even refunded customer bookings.
According to Norhaslinda, if this situation persists, it will hurt the tourism industry in Pangkor, thereby hindering the smooth running of Visit Perak Year.
