Bring Your Own Bottles

Attention all eco-conscious residents of Ipoh! Ipoh Garden South is now home to the city’s first Zero Waste Store, an innovative and environmentally-friendly establishment brought to you by IpohRefill – a company dedicated to sustainability and reducing single-use plastics in the community.
In recent months, it’s been hard to ignore the mounting piles of trash that seem to have found a home on Ipoh’s streets and in its parks. As a community, we’re faced with a collective challenge – how do we tackle this growing issue of waste? The answer lies not just in individual actions but in coming together as a community to make a change.
Amidst this pressing need for action, IpohRefill has expanded its offerings with the opening of Ipoh’s first Zero Waste Store. Led by the passionate environmentalist, Hwang Pei See, this store is a reminder that change starts with each and every one of us. With a background deeply rooted in environmental conservation and a decade-long dedication to sustainable living, Hwang’s move to Ipoh brought with it a mission – to make zero waste a lifestyle and to reduce single-use plastics in the Perak community.
Step inside Ipoh Refill’s Zero Waste Store and you’ll be greeted by more than just shelves stocked with eco-friendly products. It’s a vibrant hub of activity, where reclaimed driftwood lights cast a warm glow over upcycled pallet furniture. The air is filled with the scent of freshly churned nut butter and the promise of a cleaner, more sustainable future.
From locally-sourced, bio eco-friendly cleaning products to reusable sanitary products like cloth pads and menstrual cups, every item on the shelves is curated with environmental preservation in mind. The store even boasts a unique “Hungry Room” – Currently a work in progress. (More news on this to come!)
In addition to offering a wide range of sustainable products, The Zero Waste Store hosts interactive workshops and events aimed at raising awareness about everyday living practices. From DIY sustainability projects to zero-waste cooking classes and talks by environmental experts, there’s something for everyone to get involved in and learn from.
IpohRefill has also established partnerships with local organisations, schools, and businesses to further promote sustainability and zero waste practices in the community. By working together with like-minded partners, Hwang and her team are able to amplify their impact and reach more people with their message of conservation.
As Hwang Pei See looks ahead, she envisions a future where Ipoh leads the charge as Malaysia’s greenest city – a city where zero waste practices are the norm, rather than the exception. With plans to expand IpohRefill’s reach and influence, she is committed to fostering a community of eco-conscious individuals dedicated to preserving our planet for future generations.
