IPOH: Industrial collaboration between Ungku Omar Polytechnic (PUO) and strategic partners is strengthened through the ‘Symposium On Manufacturing Engineering Technology And Supply Chain Management (SMETSCM) program.
This is an annual program organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering for final year Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Manufacturing (Supply Chain Management) students.
It serves as a platform to present and showcase student projects with industry in the areas of manufacturing system management, quality control, logistics, and warehouse management.
The symposium includes presentation sessions and industrial project exhibitions, sharing sessions by industry experts, and Work-Based Learning placement interviews attended by 100 students.
The Director of the Symposium, Dr. Woo Tze Keong, said that all student projects presented were produced in collaboration with the industry during their Work-Based Learning.
This 10-month program is designed with the aim of producing polytechnic graduates who can meet current industry needs.
“Through WBL, students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at the polytechnic to solve real workplace problems.
The industries involved in this student project are Kamaya Electric (M) Sdn. Bhd., Hovid Bhd, Camfil Malaysia, Benchmark Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd., Brahim’s Sats Food Services Sdn Bhd., Kumpulan Jebco (M) Sdn. Bhd., and WSA Venture Australia (M) Sdn Bhd.
