IPOH: An Indonesian citizen was arrested along with an estimated 9 kilograms (kg) of drugs believed to be heroin in a raid on a house in Langkap last Monday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, stated that the operation by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) of the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters (IPD) successfully apprehended the 40-year-old suspect.
“An inspection of the house found an unbranded rose gold-colored wheeled zip bag.
“Inside, there were 20 clear plastic packets containing substances suspected to be heroin, with a total estimated weight of 9,010 grams, valued at RM 110,000,” he said at a press conference in the Media Room of the Perak Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
Mohd Yusri mentioned that based on investigations, this syndicate is believed to have been active in drug distribution activities since March.
“The seized drugs are suspected to be intended for distribution in the local market in this state.
“It is estimated that the amount of seized drugs could be used by 11,000 drug addicts,” he said.
He added that an initial urine test was conducted and found the suspect positive for methamphetamine.
“Checks revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record.
“This case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect has been remanded for seven days from May 21 to May 27 to assist in the investigation,” he said.
He added that Perak Police urge the public to continue providing any information related to drug abuse activities to enhance eradication efforts and ensure the state is free from the threat of drugs.
