IPOH: The express bus driver involved in an accident with a tanker truck at kilometer (km) 290.9 of the North-South Expressway PLUS, heading sout, has 15 traffic summonses, including two for accidents.
According to Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, checks also revealed that the express bus itself had 38 accumulated summonses.
He stated that preliminary investigations found that the accident, which occurred at 5:30 AM, was caused by the bus carrying 25 passengers losing control and hitting the back of a cement-laden tanker truck.
“The bus driver is a 38-year-old local man driving from Sungai Nibong, Penang to Kuala Lumpur.
“Upon reaching the scene, he lost control and hit the back of the cement-laden truck driven by a 30-year-old local man, also en route to Kuala Lumpur.
“As a result of the accident, 10 victims, including the bus driver and passengers aged between 13 and 60, were sent to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for further treatment.
“Meanwhile, 16 other victims, including the truck driver, were not injured,” he said in a media statement here today.
Abang Zainal Abidin added that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (driving without care and consideration).
Therefore, he requested witnesses of the accident to contact the Case Investigating Officer, Inspector Edwin Tang Chiew Song, at 016-5506863 or to approach the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
