A Toast Goodbye to Woh Kee Coffee Factory
By KT Leong
After more than 80 years, Woh Kee Coffee Factory will be closing its doors by mid-June.
Founded in the 1930s by the late Mr. Foo Woh Cheong, like many businesses, this coffee powder manufacturer started out small; roasting its coffee in-house while gradually growing in scale, until the large scale production had to be done off-site while the store itself, focused more on the packaging side of things.
Through three generations, they have provided their blend to coffee shops and coffee lovers alike.
For better or worse, the only constant is change. They’ve changed from wood to gas for roasting their coffee and they’ve changed from the first generation, to the second and finally, the third.
But with owners and staff ageing, and the new generation finding their own successes in the world, there isn’t a successor to take over the business, and the final change of Woh Kee Coffee Factory is to cease its operations and for everyone to enjoy the fruits of their over 80 years of labour.
Asked what’s to become of their store, they say that the family will continue to live there and use its office facilities for their future endeavours.
Located on 70, Jalan Treacher Selatan, Kampung Kuchai, 30000 Ipoh, Perak; their factory operations have concluded, however, there’s still a chance to visit their store at the location provided, as those doors won’t be closing until sometime in mid-June. Kindly call 05-2548386 if you want to make sure that there will be someone to attend to you.
We wish the staff, owners and their families all the best in their endeavours yet to come.
