IPOH: The Social Security Organization (PERKESO) appreciates the role played by the mass media in assisting the agency in fulfilling its responsibilities.
This includes media personnel in states or bureaus who help PERKESO disseminate various coverages in their respective localities.
The Chief Communication Officer and Corporate Affairs of PERKESO, Roshaimi Mat Rosely, said they hope to further strengthen this existing good relationship.
According to him, their approach involves reaching out to media colleagues in the states, even though most of them are already known.
“For example, in Perak, PERKESO always receives good cooperation from the media when covering activities.
“The coverage provided enables the public to know about PERKESO, especially the assistance provided to contributors.
“The relationship between PERKESO and the media is crucial in advocating for the welfare of workers who are PERKESO contributors,” he said.
He said this while meeting with media personnel at the Perak State Media Practitioners Appreciation Ceremony with PERKESO at Galasa Caldwell here last night.
Also present were the Director of PERKESO Perak, V. Mohanadas, and the Chief Communications and Branding Officer of PERKESO, Dato’ Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin.
Representatives from 23 media agencies in Perak, including Ipoh Echo and Perak Tastic, attended the event.
Roshaimi added that PERKESO handles many cases involving media personnel who encounter accidents while working.
Therefore, he advised media personnel such as freelance journalists or stringers in the states to contribute to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS).
“SKSPS provides protection against occupational disasters while working, and this includes freelance journalists.
“At present, the government subsidizes 90% of the contribution amount, so don’t miss this opportunity for the benefit of media colleagues,” he said.
