Ipoh – Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) remains committed to producing well-rounded graduates who are community-oriented through various impactful initiatives.

In pursuit of this goal, 60 students and lecturers from Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) participated in the Program Bakti Siswa at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wira Jaya (SKWJ), Ipoh.

According to PUO’s statement, the community service program was conducted in two phases. The first phase involved 30 PUO National Service students under the guidance of Mohd Nazrin, a lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department. They painted classrooms at the school alongside SKWJ teachers in February.

“The second phase involved 30 students and lecturers pursuing Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Manufacturing System Supply Network) under the guidance of Khairul Nizad Panior.

“They designed, fabricated, and installed school landmarks around May and June 2024.

“The process of building these landmarks provided PUO students with an opportunity to apply engineering knowledge in serving the community,” the statement said.

The program also emphasizes the importance of communication skills, leadership skills, teamwork, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills among volunteers.

“Moreover, it also enhances students’ awareness of social responsibility and the significance of contributing to the community, while practicing their knowledge and building strong relationships with the local community,” it added.

Simultaneously, a Signing Ceremony for the Collaboration Certificate between PUO and SKWJ was held to strengthen cooperation, coinciding with the Inauguration of the SKWJ 2024 Landmark.

The ceremony was attended by Director Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, representatives from PUO, SKWJ, and the local community.
