IPOH: The keys to the Ipoh Town Hall building were handed over by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) to Ipoh City Council (MBI) today.
This was executed through the Handover Ceremony of the Ipoh City Hall and Old Post Office building, held here.
Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, mentioned that MBI also handed over the keys to the old Post Office to the National Visual Arts Development Board.
The handover was witnessed by the Chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching.
“The implementation of the Ipoh Heritage Tourism (IHT) Package 2 (Ipoh Townhall and Old Post Office) project reflects the state government’s desire to enhance tourist attractions in Ipoh city.
“This project is a continuation of Ipoh Heritage Tourism Package 1A (Ipoh Padang) and Package 1B (Kinta Riverwalk) completed on March 8, 2022.
“The objective of this development is to elevate visitor facilities and attract tourists to the heritage tourism focus area in Ipoh Old Town.
“It positions Ipoh Old Town as a tourist hotspot due to its proximity to the railway facilities connecting Kuala Lumpur to Padang Besar, Perlis,” he said here today.
He added that the IHT Package 2 project was funded and implemented by NCIA, commencing on November 22, 2022, and completed on May 20, 2024.
The project involved restoration, refurbishment, and upgrading works for the Ipoh Town Hall building as an arts performance center, as well as restoration and upgrading works for the old Post Office building as a gallery for artworks and digital creations.
“This project also aims to boost the music industry in Ipoh.
“Given that Ipoh has been recognized in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) for music category in 2023,” he said.
