JCI Ipoh Riding High on Momentum
by KT Leong
On July 8, the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ipoh Committee spent a pleasant day down memory lane with the JCI National President, Bruce Ban. The visit and sharing with the JCI National President, saw them visiting Jaycee Park.
In 1964, JCI Senator Foong Weng Yew and members of the then Ipoh Junior Chamber, had approached the Ipoh Municipal Council to organise a community based project. Due to the contributions they provided and their general concern for the community, the park was named in gratitude for this.
Despite this illustrious history, the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in 2020 had forced JCI Ipoh to scale back their activities, but in the past 2 years, they have returned to actively contribute to the community, and are rebuilding in order to be reborn.
A JCI Discover course will be held on July 12 at 8 pm. It will be a Zoom meeting, limited to only 30 seats. Participation is free of charge.
Young people between the ages of 21 to 40 are encouraged to check it out. JCI Ipoh fosters leadership in its members by having them organise projects for the community. Thanks to its policy whereby members can only hold the president’s seat for just 1 year, it means that all its members will have the opportunity to take on a leadership role. These community projects are also great for networking, both with charitable organisations and entrepreneurs.
