IPOH – All tourism-related activities in Kampar’s porphyritic granite rock (Pinnacle Of Kampar) area are currently prohibited.

Tourism Perak Chief Executive Nurmalis Musa stated that this directive is a precautionary measure for visitors due to concerns about the bridge’s safety.

“The bridge built across the porphyritic granite rock is feared to be unstable and could pose safety risks to visitors.

“Recently, on social media, some individuals have been offering activity packages such as hiking and kayaking in the area without considering the safety factors.

“If visitors still come here and any accidents occur, it is at their own risk and responsibility,” she told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.

The visit to the porphyritic granite rock area was also attended by representatives from the Kampar District Council, Perak Department of Minerals and Geosciences, Perak Land and Mines Office, and Senior Lecturer in Geomechanics and Engineering Geology at UKM, Dr Goh Thian Lai.

Nurmalis added that to ensure visitor safety, the bridge will be reassessed for safety and will be repaired.

“The process of repairing the bridge is estimated to take about three to six months. If all work is completed and meets the required safety standards, they will notify us.

“We will inform the public before this area is reopened to tourists,” she said.

Meanwhile, the visit continued to another porphyritic granite rock area in Malim Nawar that has been identified.

This area is located in the rural area of Malim Nawar. The porphyritic granite rock can be seen around the former mining area.
