Illegal immigrant selling mangoes on WCE highway among those detained by Perak Immigration

IPOH: A Bangladeshi illegal immigrant selling mangoes with asam boi near the West Coast Expressway (WCE) was among those detained in an operation conducted by the Perak State Immigration Department (JIM).

According to its Director, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, the department carried out Ops Selera, Ops Dandan, Ops Jaja, Ops Sapu, Ops Kutip, and Ops Gegar on Thursday, which concluded on Friday morning.

He stated that 15 residential, business, hotel, and reflexology premises, including roadside areas around the Kinta, Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, and Bagan Datuk districts, were inspected.

“The operation was conducted by the Ipoh Immigration Enforcement Division and the Teluk Intan Immigration Office Enforcement Unit, starting at 9 am on July 18 and ending at 3:30 am on Friday.

“The raids were based on complaints, surveillance, and intelligence carried out by the Perak JIM Intelligence and Operations Unit at the premises.

“A total of 40 Immigration Officers were involved in inspecting 63 individuals at the premises.

“It was found that 26 foreigners, comprising 11 Indonesians, 6 Myanmarese, 3 Bangladeshis, 3 Indians, 2 Thais, and 1 Sri Lankan, aged between 18 and 49 years old, were detained for reasonably suspected offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said on Friday.

He added that all the foreigners were detained at the Ipoh and Langkap Immigration Depots for investigation purposes.

“Further actions following the legal process have been taken under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which is entering and being in Malaysia without a valid pass.

Section 15(1)(c) of the same act, which is staying/remaining in Malaysia after the expiry of a valid pass issued, and the offense under Regulation 39(b), Immigration Regulations 1963, which is violating the conditions of the issued pass,” he added.
