PUTRAJAYA: The public is advised to be cautious of any direct supply contract offers using the name of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
This follows reports of scams using the department’s name.
JBPM’s Corporate Management Division stated that the reported cases have been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigation.
According to the statement, all JBPM procurement processes follow established procedures.r
“For your information, all procurements valued at RM50,000 and below must go through the government’s ePerolehan price invitation system.
“As for direct negotiations valued at RM50,000 and above, they require approval from the Ministry of Finance, without involving third parties or any advance payments,” the statement said.
Based on checks, 38 complaints have been received from the public about scams using JBPM’s name since January.
Of these, 13 cases were reported in Sabah, 7 in Johor, 5 in Terengganu, and 3 each in Labuan, Pahang, and Selangor.
One case was reported each in Melaka, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.
Reported cases include offers for supply tenders such as cooked food, raw materials, tires, and engine oil for vehicles and machinery.
There were also instances of fake food order letters using the name of the Fire Station Chief or State Fire Director.
JBPM takes this matter seriously, and all victims have been advised to file police reports for further investigation.
As a precaution, individuals contacted with various offers using JBPM’s name should refer to any State Fire Headquarters or the involved fire stations for verification before taking any action.
