Duo of Teens Bring Pride to Perak in 15th Malaysian Deaf Badminton Championship

by KT Leong

The Perak Deaf Sports Association (PESDeaf) have sent two teenage players to the 15th Malaysia Deaf Badminton Tournament, which was hosted by the Johor Deaf Sports Association (JSDeaf), from July 19 to 21 at the Badminton Academy Perling, Johor Bahru.

The two teenagers who represented Perak were Muhammad Syariel Rayyan Bin Syaifull, 16 years old and Muhammad Firas Nurhan Bin Mohd Fadzlan, 15 years old. Both of whom attend Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tasek Damai, Ipoh.

Out of the two categories of teenagers and open, there were more than 60 athletes from 11 states. Despite these odds, the two teenagers from Perak have successfully won the silver medal in the doubles badminton category.

Malaysian Deaf badminton coach Sabrina Chong, who was also present, assessed that some new Deaf athletes could potentially be shaped into national badminton players.

In addition, the PESDeaf team needs to find young people from schools (hearing problems or deaf) in all districts, for the Perak State Deaf Badminton Circuit New Talent Selection.
