By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The initiative to stimulate the circular economy by utilising waste materials continues to be carried out by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) through collaboration with strategic partners.

Recently, MBI signed a memorandum of understanding with its circular economy strategic partner, Tetra Pak (M) Sdn. Bhd., for the purpose of recycling beverage cartons.

Tetra Pak (M) Sdn. Bhd. began its collaboration with MBI on September 8, 2023.

A total of nine programmes involving the public and school students have been conducted, during which approximately 100 kilograms (kg) of beverage cartons were collected for recycling.

Through this collaboration, MBI plans to implement beverage carton recycling activities involving 153 schools in the district, in cooperation with the State Education Department (JPN) and the Kinta Utara District Education Office (PPD).

As a start, 40 primary schools have been invited to participate in the beverage carton recycling activity under the ‘CAREton’ Project.

This aims to increase the collection of beverage cartons and raise awareness about environmental preservation and conservation among school students.

Such programmes and activities are hoped to contribute to achieving the vision of a 45% carbon reduction target by 2030.
