IPOH: Many historical sites in the state remain under-visited, primarily due to their remote locations and lack of local historical information.

Despite their rich historical narratives, these places often receive little attention, compounded by inadequate maintenance.

As a small effort, the Perak Heritage Association has initiated the Heritage Walk programme in the Perak Tengah district.

Fifteen participants joined this informative and leisurely session.

The visited locations included Kota Sultan Muzaffar Shah, Sultan Perak, and the Dato Maharaja Lela Fortress Complex.

Both of these historical heritage sites hold significant importance in the history of the Perak Malay Sultanate from the 16th and 19th centuries.

Kota Sultan Muzaffar Shah I is located in Kampung Padang Marhum, Telok Bakong, Lambor Kanan, Bota, while the trench and fortress of Dato Maharaja Lela are situated in Kampung Gajah, Pasir Salak.

According to the Secretary of the Perak Heritage Association, Nor Hisham Zulkiflee, the session was conducted in small groups to facilitate movement.

He stated that attendance was also open to those interested in learning about local history.

“On behalf of the association, I would like to thank the Perak State Museum Board and all the participants who attended.

“May these heritage sites continue to be well-preserved,” he said.

Nor Hisham further explained that many historical sites in Perak have yet to be fully developed to realise their potential as tourist attractions capable of drawing large crowds.
