IPOH: The Perak government, through the Perak State Sports Council (MSN), is offering an Athlete Victory Incentive Scheme for those who win medals at the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA).
SUKMA will take place in Sarawak from August 17 to August 24 2024.
Chairman of the State Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee, Khairudin Abu Hanipah, said the incentives would be awarded based on individual and team categories to boost the athletes’ fighting spirit.
“For the individual category, athletes who win a gold medal will receive an incentive of RM5,000, RM3,000 for a silver medal, and RM1,000 for a bronze medal.
“For the team category, the state government will award each member RM2,500 for a gold medal, RM1,500 for a silver medal, and RM500 for a bronze medal,” he said.
Khairudin mentioned that incentives would also be given to coaches and team managers.
He said this is to provide a morale boost for them to strive harder for victory.
“Team coaches will receive 30 percent of the highest medal value, while team managers will receive 20 percent of the highest medal value achieved.
“For example, a coach of an athlete who wins gold, with the gold medal valued at RM5,000, will receive RM1,500,” he explained.
He said this while delivering a speech at the Special Meeting of the Perak State SUKMA 2024 Contingent at the M Roof Hotel.
Also present at the event was the State Secretary, Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.
Additionally, Khairudin presented a special contribution of RM4,000 to Perak athletes selected for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
The four athletes are Nur Jannaton Abdul Jalil for archery, Nur Suraiya Muhamad Zamri and Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin for cycling, and Abu Samah Borhan for wheelchair tennis.
