KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has launched the Solid Waste Economy Action Plan in Malaysia (2025-2035) to advance the sector.

Minister Nga Kor Ming stated that the plan will aid efforts to accelerate the transition through five main pillars.

These include governance and legislation, guidelines and procedures, digitization and technology, infrastructure and facilities, and market creation.

He mentioned that the plan aligns with the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) and supports the National Healthy Malaysia Agenda.

“The government, along with all stakeholders including state governments, local authorities, industry players, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and academics, is committed to collaborating to promote the implementation of the circular economy agenda.

“This is for the sustainability of natural resources, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability,” he said.

The blueprint sets out Malaysia’s vision to achieve a circular economy transformation for solid waste management that maximizes resource efficiency.

At the same time, it aims to promote economic growth, social well-being, and environmental sustainability by the year 2050.
